“Multimedia Telemedicine System”
Information Technology and Telecommunications, today, has such a great influence on our way of life, that it now seems impossible for any aspect of life to escape its intervention. That is why, health care attention leans, every day with greater intensity, on the technological resources, which has permitted important advances in the treatment of illnesses and the conservation of human health. Such is the case of Telemedicine, which permits long-distance diagnoses and treatments, with the support of video conference and other electronic equipment that permits transmitting vital signs and imagery for medical analysis.
This investigation is based on the design and construction of a prototype telemedicine system capable of handling multimedia data. The technologies that form part of a typical multimedia telemedicine system are analyze: data acquisition, compression, transmission, decompression and display. Also, basic theoretical explanations are given, so that with a minimum knowledge on the subject, one can understand the system.
In this way, this document is well suited for anyone or institution who wishes to initiate their own telemedicine system. In addition, we have concentrated on the Internet as the primary access for the system, making it well suited worldwide.

Sistema de Telemedicina Multimedia
Es tanta la influencia de la informática y de las telecomunicaciones en la cotidianidad humana que nada parece substraerse a sus mediaciones. Por eso, la atención en salud se apoya, cada día con mayor intensidad, en los recursos tecnológicos, lo que ha permitido avances importantes en el tratamiento de las enfermedades y en la conservación de la salud humana. Tal es el caso de la telemedicina, la cual permite realizar diagnósticos y tratamientos a distancia, valiéndose de la videoconferencia y equipos que permiten transmitir signos vitales e imágenes para su posterior análisis.
“VIVA LA REVOLUCIÓN”
Esta investigación está fundamentada en el diseño y construcción de un sistema prototipo de telemedicina con servicios multimedia. Se analizan las tecnologías que intervienen en un sistema de telemedicina multimedia típico: la adquisición, compresión, transmisión, descompresión y despliegue. Además, se ofrecen las explicaciones teóricas necesarias para que, con un conocimiento básico sobre el tema, se comprenda dicho proceso. De este modo, este documento puede servir como referencia para cualquier persona o institución que desee iniciar un proyecto de Telemedicina.
Además, se ha concentrado sobre el Internet como el medio de acceso fundamental para el sistema. Así, este proyecto tiene perspectiva regional en la asistencia médica.
